Vehicle damages ECD pole causes widespread outage – GPL

The Guyana Power and Light said that a vehicle collided with a utility pole at Coldingen at 01:45 hrs yesterday causing damage to the pole and line hardware resulting in widespread power outage affecting consumers from Goedverwagting to Bygeval.

According to a press release, the pole carried conductors for the two man feeders supplying the East Coast Demerara.

GPL said in the release that power is gradually being restored to consumers with those between Goedverwagting and Good Hope being repowered at 7 am and from Good Hope to Buxton at 9.35 am.

“While repairs are affected by the inclement weather, we are working to ensure that power is restored to consumers between Buxton and Bygeval Mahaica by [3 pm],” said GPL.

The release said GPL has consistently pleaded with road users to exercise due caution when using the roadways in an effort to avoid incidents of this nature. “The company again renews the call, especially to operators of heavy equipment, to be vigilant when travelling in the vicinity of our network to avoid unnecessary damage to property and inconvenience to our customers. GPL apologises for the inconvenience caused due to today’s unforeseen occurrence,” said the GPL release.
