Quest Medical Centre gets lab certification

Quest Medical Centre Laboratory was on Friday presented with a Certificate of Compliance by the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) during a simple ceremony held at the lab’s Irving and Laluni Streets, Queenstown office.

Quest Medical Centre, which is also licensed by the Ministry of Health, began operations in June 2012 and provides its patients with an array of testing options, including Biochemistry, Haematology, Serology, Microbiology, Urinalysis, and Immunology, a press release from the laboratory said.

According to the release, the certificate fulfilled the requirements of the GYS 170:2009 standard.

The certification of a laboratory, the GNBS says on its website, “provides formal recognition that a laboratory has implemented a laboratory management system, thus providing a ready means to customers to identify and select reliable testing, measurement and calibration services to meet their needs.”

It goes on to state, “Laboratory Certification benefits laboratories by allowing them to determine whether they are performing their work efficiently and to appropriate standards.  It provides them with a benchmark for maintaining the laboratory management system and improving the quality of laboratory services offered to customers.”

Ratna Budhu, one of the owners and General Manager, conveyed immense gratitude to the staff members of the laboratory for their discipline and commitment. She pledged to maintain and improve a system of the highest quality that ensures patient satisfaction and reliance, the release said.

In presenting the Certificate of Compliance, Evadnie Innis, Director of GNBS, congratulated the Management and staff of Quest Medical Centre Laboratory for their achievement due to their hard work. In the various presentations, the importance of quality, commitment, job satisfaction was emphasised.

Innis urged management and staff to maintain certification and to improve by way of accreditation.
