Two die in accident following wake for Crown Cabs dispatcher

An accident which occurred on Mandela Avenue last evening left two persons dead and another in need of medical attention.

The dead have been identified as 19-year-old Tiana Holder of Lot 18 Benn Street, Newburg, and Percival Chester of 16 D’Urban Street, Lodge, both employees of Crown Taxi Service. Persons who showed up at the hospital said that Percival had been a driver at the taxi service for some time while Holder started out as one of the service’s dispatchers yesterday.

The injured person was identified as 29-year-old Yolanda Ghent of East Street Alberttown. Stabroek News understands that the three had left a wake at the Taxi Service’s 312 Middle Street base, which was being held in in remembrance of Vanessa Williams, the Crown Cabs dispatcher who was shot on Tuesday, to visit Williams’ mother.

Chester, who was driving at the time, is said to have lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the Texaco Gas Station on Mandela Avenue.

Reports say that he might have been inebriated, and that he was speeding. Chester was the father of a baby girl.
