Court employee remanded over forgery, larceny

Tiffany Peters, who was wanted by the police in connection with forgery and larceny from the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, since last October, was yesterday charged and remanded to prison when she appeared at court.

when it was read to her by Magistrate Faith McGusty.

It was alleged that between February 7 and September 11, 2012, being employed as a clerk/servant at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, she stole the sum of $3,045,000.

Prosecutor Seon Blackman, while relating the police’s facts, said that Peters was employed as a clerk/cashier at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, maintenance section. Her job responsibilities entailed the writing up of maintenance affiliation cards, cash composition book and collecting cash from persons paying monies to the court.

During the February to September time period, he said, she allegedly she made changes to receipts and records and stole the money. The matter was reported and investigated and she was subsequently arrested and charged.

Blackman objected to bail based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.

She was remanded to prison until November 26.
