Three 11-yr-old boys hit down by alleged drunk driver

Three 11-year-old boys were last evening admitted at the Georgetown Public Hospital after they were hit by a car on Station Street Kitty, while on their way home from lessons.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the car was heavily intoxicated at the time of the accident. They added that he regularly consumed alcohol at a popular bar on Station Street, Kitty and would normally leave intoxicated.

It was reported that the three school-aged boys, Keis Carter of Lot 12 Section ‘B’ Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara, Shamar Lesprance of Lot 125 North Road, Melanie, East Coast Demerara and Ebitayo Pilgrim, of Lot 360 Hope, East Coast Demerara, are all students at the Stella Maris Primary School.

They are preparing for the National Grade Six Assessment in another few months. Reports are that the three boys had just finished school lessons and were walking along Station Street with their lessons teacher, heading to Vlissengen Road to get transportation to go home when they were hit down.

An eyewitness who was tutoring a young boy, who lives close by, said that as the boys passed they called out to her and waved. She added that she responded to them in like manner and soon after loud crash. When she looked out, she saw one of the boys crawl from under the car and collapse. The car then carried on and ended up into a nearby trench.

Carter’s mother told Stabroek News that her son is a very brilliant child. Family members of the other two boys were too distraught to speak.
