APNU meets with US embassy officials

Representatives of A Partnership for National Unity met yesterday with representatives of the United States Embassy in Guyana.

A release from APNU said that the meeting was held at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition, 61 Hadfield Street, Georgetown. The release said that the two sides discussed governance and the work of the National Assembly among others.

“Emphasis was placed on the Parliamentary Budget Office and the Parliamentary Legal Counsel.

Discussions were also held on Local Government Elections and the status of the un-assented Local Government (Amend-ment) Bill.

The Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism Bill was also discussed and the two sides looked at the way forward with emphasis on Legislation and the country’s compliance with the other enforcement measures as recommended by the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF)”, the release said.

The United States Embassy team was comprised of Bryan D. Hunt, Deputy Chief of Mission along with an officer from the Political Affairs Department. APNU’s team was headed by Brigadier David Granger and included Dr. Rupert Roopnarine, Joseph Harmon and Ronald Bulkan.
