Taxi driver on assault charge says he was victim of attack

A Linden taxi driver accused of assault yesterday produced a medical report to support his claim that he was the victim of an attack.

When the charge of assault on Troy Arthur on November 25, at Pine Street, Mackenzie, Linden, was read against Toan Fraser, he immediately denied it.

“Is they assault me… my head and my mouth burst. I was the one beaten,” Fraser told Chief Magistrate Priya Sewanarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts as he produced a medical report in an effort to support his non-appearance at his last court hearing.

Fraser, who resides at 255 Block 22, Wismar, was placed on $25,000 bail, after police prosecutrix Vernette Pindar conceded that the man had a medical to prove that he was ill.

His case will be heard next at the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court on January 8, 2014.
