Partner charged in fatal beating of Ankerville woman

Cattle ranger Joseph Anthony Singh was yesterday charged with murdering his partner, Jasmattie Dowlatram, who he is accused of fatally beating with a piece of wood at Ankerville last Friday night.

Singh, 32, called ‘Tony,’ of Lot 10 Sewdin Street, Rose Hall Town, Coren-tyne, appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the Albion Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on Friday, December 6, 2013, at Ankerville, Corentyne Singh murdered Jasmattie Ramotar or Jasmattie Dowlatram, called ‘Mamoo.’ Singh, who was also unrepresented, was not required to plead to the capital charge and was remanded to prison.

Magistrate Singh also transferred the matter to the Whim Magistrate’s Court for its next hearing, which is fixed for January 13, 2014.

Dowlatram and Singh were involved in a relationship for six years. According to various accounts, Singh saw Dowlatram, a mother of five of 423 Train Line Dam, Ankerville, Port Mourant  speaking to a man following which he took her to a private area and during a confrontation he allegedly beat her with a piece of wood.

Dowlatram was taken to the hospital by the accused in an unconscious state and later succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment.
