Trans Guyana plane goes off runway during Ogle landing

A plane veered off the runway at the Ogle International Airport yesterday after it experienced “partial brake seizure” during landing.

The Britten Norman Islander aircraft, operated by Trans Guyana Airways, had just made its way from Kurupung, Cuyuni-Mazaruni with six passengers and its pilot, none of whom was injured in the midday incident.

Ogle International Airport spokesman Kit Nascimento referred to the incident as a minor one.

Nascimento explained that upon landing, the aircraft’s pilot applied the brakes, which resulted in steering difficulties and caused the plane to veer off to the right side of the runway, before eventually stopping.

The plane was not damaged. Nascimento noted that the passengers were escorted into the terminal while the aircraft was taken for maintenance works as is the standard operating procedure.

He also said that the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) was informed of the incident, in keeping with aviation regulations. GCAA Director General Zulficar Mohamed told Stabroek News yesterday that the agency had indeed been notified of the incident and said that officers have been assigned to investigate it.
