Republic Bank awards top students

Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited, through its ‘Power to Make a Difference Initiative,’on Thursday honoured top performers at the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA), Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE).

Awards were presented by Denise Hobbs, Republic Bank’s General Manager (Corporate Management Service), to the top student for each examination, at a small award ceremony.

Eleven-year-old Salma Majeed, of ISA Islamic Academy, was awarded for her achievements at the NGSA examinations, where she scored 548 marks out of a possible total score of 560.

Yogeeta Persaud, of Anna Regina Multilateral, was also awarded for receiving 18 grade ones at this year’s CSEC examinations, while Jonelle James was awarded for excellent performance after she received five grade ones in all five of the CAPE examination subjects she wrote in 2012.

Patricia Plummer, Republic Bank’s General Manager (Credit), informed the successful students that the celebration of their achievements should not be viewed as the end of hard work but rather as the beginning. She added that success was a journey and that Republic Bank encourages students to continue to their endeavours and to achieve their goals.

Plummer, quoting the late Nelson Mandela, former freedom fighter and President of South Africa, said, “Education is the most powerful tool we can use to rule the world.”
