Robbery, assault charges lands man in prison

Albouystown resident Mohammed Katludeen was on Friday remanded to prison when he was arraigned in the Georgetown Magistrates Court on charges that he robbed and assaulted two men.

Katludeen, 34, of lot 98 La Penitence Street, Albouystown was charged with robbing Ghansam Ramdeen and assaulting Hedon Mohammed. He pleaded not guilty.

Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the court that on December 11 at 11.30pm on Charlotte Street, Ramdeen and Mohammed were walking towards the mini-bus park, when Katludeen who was riding a bicycle, pounced upon them.

Katludeen allegedly relieved Ramdeen of a BlackBerry cellular phone valued $42,000 and dealt his cousin, Mohammed several cuffs to his body.

The matter was later reported and Katludeen was apprehended and charged. The court also heard that at the time of his arrest the cellphone was found in the accused’s pants pocket.

The prosecutor objected to bail based on the prevalence and seriousness of the offence.

Katludeen was remanded and ordered to appear in court on January 17, 2014.
