Briton hacked to death in Jamaica

(Jamaica Observer) NEGRIL, Westmoreland — A UK national who reportedly stabbed his spouse’s son was set upon and hacked to death by an angry mob yesterday in a section of Negril known as Hermitage.

The dead man has been identified as 50-year-old Indiana King, who lived in London, England.

One man has since been taken into custody for questioning in connection with the incident.

Police report that about 11:00 am yesterday, King — who reportedly arrived in the island three weeks ago to attend his spouse’s birthday party — was at her home when an argument developed between himself and his stepson.

According to a family member, King used the knife to stab his spouse’s son, after which he held him down and repeatedly bashed his head against stones.

Residents of the community, who saw what was taking place, went to the injured man’s assistance at which point King fled the scene.

He was chased, subsequently cornered, and chopped multiple times.

He ran a short distance before collapsing.

King’s stepson, meanwhile, was still in hospital at press time last night in serious, but stable condition.

King’s death pushed the murder tally in Westmoreland to four, since the start of the new year.

Yesterday, residents, who had blank looks on their faces, converged on the scene shortly after news of the brutal killing began to spread.

King’s spouse, who was allegedly not at home at the time of the incident, was seen being driven away from the crime scene. She was lying on the back seat of the car.

One family member, who tried hard to come to terms with the killing, recalled that King had an enjoyable time on the beach on Sunday.

“I am shaken up over the whole [incident]. I don’t know what happened,” she lamented.

Meanwhile, crime scene detectives were seen removing a bloodied knife and machete, shortly after undertakers removed King’s body from the scene.

Detectives from the Negril Police Station are investigating.
