(Jamaica Observer) The police have sought the public’s help in locating Marlon Omar McMillian, who goes by the aliases ‘Chris’, ‘Truthy’, and ‘Shootie’, in connection with Thursday’s brutal slaying of a five-year-old boy in Allman Town, Kingston.
Young Rushane ‘Ricardo’ Burford was shot multiple times in the face and back by a man who was engaged in an argument with his grandmother. His grandmother was also shot an injured in the incident.
According to residents, Rushane’s grandmother and the man were quarrelling over water when, in a fit of rage, the man allegedly left the scene, came back with a firearm and began firing wildly at the woman and her relatives.
Rushane, who the Jamaica Observer was told sought refuge inside the family house under a bed, began screaming. It was then that the thug allegedly turned his firearm under the bed on the boy.
The incident, which happened a day after a schoolgirl was abducted, murdered and her body dumped on a roadside in Kingston 11, has drawn widespread condemnation.
Yesterday, several Observer online readers said killings like Rushane’s warranted the resumption of hanging.
“Now are you convinced — bring back hanging!” one reader wrote.
“I hope these men are put to death,” another commented.
“These animals need to be taken off the streets and hanged,” added another.
One reader argued that the current situation calls for “clear vision, right ethics, and decisive leadership”.
“…Does anyone believe this innocent child was this animal’s first victim?” another reader asked.
Yesterday, detectives from the Kingston and St Andrew Major Investigation Task Force urged McMillian to immediately “turn himself in to the nearest police station”.
They described him as being of dark complexion, slim build, and sporting a corn row hairstyle.
“Anyone who may know the whereabouts of McMillian is being asked to contact the Kingston Central Police at 922-0308, Crime Stop at 311 or 811, Police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station,” the police said.
