(Jamaica Gleaner) “This cannot be real! They are like shining stars … full of promise. This is more than a mystery,” said 30-year-old Sharon Fleure of Christiana, Manchester, as she reacted to yesterday’s vicious murder of her nieces, four-year-old Chrisanne and two-year-old Tessone Mullings, by their father, Kenville Mullings, 34.
“I am shocked. My brother was a model father, a gentleman. He loved his girls; nobody would expect this,” Fleure said, as she tried to come to grips with the triple tragedy, which ended with her brother hanging himself after killing the children.
“I am still trying to find answers,” muttered the forlorn Fleure, as she and other relatives gathered at the death scene in Woodgrove near Wait-A-Bit in Trelawny.
According to another relative, Sheree Richards, there was a breakdown in the relationship between Mullings and Smith. However, while the relationship between both of them soured, no love was lost between Mullings and his children. According to residents of the farming village, he was a model father, who always showed open affection for his two little girls.
“It is not unusual to see him walking around with the two little girls on his shoulders,” said Anthony McLean, a farming colleague of Mullings. “Everyone admired him and how he took care of his family. His children were his life.”
Prior to yesterday’s incident, Mullings was seen as an easygoing family man, who has never been associated with any action that could be considered vulgar or violent.
“This is the mystery of all mysteries … nobody would expect this one. The entire community is shocked … not even our children are gone to school,” said Betty Black, a resident of Woodgrove. “Every woman here would have wanted a father like him for their children.”
