CAL Miami flight delayed after “9/11” scare

(Trinidad Express) Caribbean Airlines flight BW484 from Port of Spain to Miami had an unexpected delay yesterday morning when, just before take off, a routine cabin check found that someone had pasted 9/11 on the aircraft’s bathroom mirror, using liquid soap.

9/11 is popularly a reference to the deadly terrorist attack on New York’s World Trade Centre on September 11, 2001.

A source told the Express that when a flight attendant discovered the graffiti, she informed the captain, who then made the decision to return to the terminal.

Caribbean Airlines communications director Clint Williams told the Express yesterday afternoon that before departure, BW484 received information that led to the decision to return to the terminal and have the aircraft’s equipment and passengers re-screened by security.

He said a full search of the airline was carried out by the Airports Authority and Civil Aviation Authority, which cleared the aircraft safe for flight. During the search passengers were taken back to the waiting lounge, where they were given meals, and apprised of the situation, Williams said.
