Barbados CJ wants random urine screening of drug court referrals

(Barbados Nation) There must be random screening of urine for people referred to the proposed Drug Treatment Court.

Chief Justice Sir Marston Gibson stated this yesterday at the closing ceremony of the Drug Treatment Court Training Workshop at the Supreme Court Complex.

Sir Marston said the only way the court was going to function was “if we have regular random screening of urine for those who come in [to the court system] and disavow use of any drugs at all”.

“There are people who are going to come in and deny absolutely that they used anything and the only way that you are going to be able to find out whether they are being truthful or whether they are being misleading is by random urine screening,” Sir Marston said.

He also said that if the Forensic Sciences Department was not ready to carry out urine tests with urgency, and get the results out, the purpose of the Drug Treatment Court would be defeated.
