UWI Mona students to pay more next semester

(Jamaica Observer) KINGSTON, Jamaica – Students of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona will face more than five per cent tuition increase for the next academic year.

Students of all faculties at the Jamaica campus will have to pay 5.5 per cent more, which UWI notes is “below the inflation rate in Jamaica, reported to be eight per cent for the calendar year 2012 and represents a recovery of 20 per cent of economic costs.”

Costs at the St Augustine campus in Trinidad and Tobago and Cave Hill in Barbados remain unchanged.

The University Council has also approved special concessionary fees for students from the Association of Caribbean States for an initial period of three years in order to widen access to students from outside CARICOM.
