American killed in Jamaica shootout between cops and robbers

(Jamaica Observer) SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland – An American man who unwittingly walked into a robbery at a garment store in Westmoreland last night, was shot and killed during an ensuing gun battle between the police and robbers.

It is unclear whether the US national was shot by the police or the crooks during the cross fire. One of the thieves was also said to have been shot dead.

A female customer who was at the business establishment was also shot and injured during the incident, which unfolded along Great Georges Street, Savanna-la-Mar.

She was rushed to hospital where she was admitted. Her condition is not said to be life threatening.

The police have reportedly recovered a firearm from the dead robber.

The Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) has commenced a probe into the incident.
