T&T gang leader was responsible for firebombing of oil company chairman’s home

(Trinidad Express) A notorious gang leader has been named as the person responsible for firebombing the Valsayn home of National Petroleum (NP) chairman Neil Gosine on Carnival Monday (February 11).

But he remains untouchable by the law.

The man was identified in a confidential report, according to a TV6 News story last night, but, somehow, the police claim ignorance.

The TV6 obtained a confidential document compiled by NP’s security department and submitted to Minister of Energy Kevin Ramnarine that shows otherwise.

Ramnarine told TV6  in a brief telephone interview: “I have seen the report and I have since passed it on to Minister of National Security Emmanuel George for his attention.”

The Minister expressed grave concern over the report that, apart from outlining the attack on the NP chairman’s house, also spoke of major players in the diesel racket.

Attempts to contact the National Security Minister over the last few weeks for a comment on this matter  were unsuccessful.

The report contained specific information fingering the gang leader as being involved in the firebombing of Gosine’s home.

It also suggested the possible reason for the attack, which pointed to Gosine’s war on the clandestine diesel trade, in which the gang leader is said to be involved.

NP security officials in the report state: “Deputy Commissioner (of Police) Mervyn Richardson, at a meeting held at police headquarters on March 1, confirmed that (name called), a known gang leader of Beetham Gardens, is involved in illegal drugs, guns and the diesel trade.”

The report further stated that during the meeting DCP Richardson confirmed that the gang leader has a close association with a man called KS aka “Tall Man”, who they believe had a residential address not far from Gosine’s home.

The report states that this man was the individual who allegedly firebombed Gosine’s home and was captured on CCTV cameras mounted near the Valsayn home.

NP security officials said they were able to obtain information from two credible sources to confirm that the Beetham Gardens gang leader had been paid to execute the firebombing job.

The report indicates that this gang leader and one of his main men “are both protected, well-known gang leaders and are also police informants. These individuals are involved in the diesel trade and work in unison”.

DCP Richardson, when contacted by phone to comment on his findings contained in this same report about the potential suspects and if there were any moves to detain these men, said “the investigations were ongoing”.

He also said he was not aware of the report that NP security officials had compiled.

Gosine, who spoke briefly with TV6 earlier this year, claimed he was informed by the the police that the investigation was closed. However, Richardson denied this, insisting that the investigation was ongoing.
