Two-year-old T&T girl believed beaten to death

(Trinidad Express) A TWO-YEAR-OLD girl who died in Chaguanas on Monday is believed to have been beaten to death.

Kimora Roopnarine, of Phyllis Lane, Enterprise, suffered two broken ribs and died of blunt force trauma, an autopsy concluded yesterday.

Little Kimora had spent the earlier part of the day at a day care centre which is located a short distance from the family home.

The child was brought for treatment to Chaguanas District Health Facility by her father, Adrian Noel, around 4.05 p.m.

Noel told medical personnel the child had been gasping for breath.

She was taken into the examination room, where she was pronounced dead.

Dr Hughvon Des Vignes performed an autopsy yesterday at the Forensic Science Centre, St James.

At the family home last night, police officers were interviewing several people, including the child’s mother.

Officers have also questioned several people at the day care centre.

Investigators confirmed they were pursuing a murder investigation.

Relatives declined to speak with members of the media.

Police have identified a person of interest in the case.

WPC Paulette Elcock of the Chaguanas Police Station is investigating.
