Venezuela releases Trinidad boat, crew

(Trinidad Express) The six crew members and captain on board the Capital of Paradise 1, which was detained by the Venezuelan coast guard on Monday, have all been released.

This was confirmed by Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Chief Secretary Orville London during yesterday’s weekly media briefing.

The vessel belongs to the Tobago House of Assembly and fish caught by the boat is sold throughout Tobago.

“At 8.45 on Tuesday, the Capital of Paradise 1 communicated to the office that they had received a call via SSB radio, from Venezuela coast guard vessels which was escorting the boat, informing them that the vessel is no longer under detention,” London said.

The vessel proceeded to Chaguaramas before returning to Tobago.Manager of the Fish Processing Company of Tobago Limited Natasha James told the Express the vessel was not fishing illegally and the matter is being dealt with by the Tobago House of Assembly in collaboration with the Government.
