T&T woman shot dead in 10th reprisal killing

(Trinidad Guardian) Almost three weeks after her son was shot dead, 54-year-old Zita Wilson was gunned down inside her living room yesterday morning. Wilson’s death is believed to be the tenth in a series of reprisal killings in Rio Claro related to a five-year-old Wilson/Garcia family feud. According to reports, Wilson was at her Sukrey Street home around 9.55 am when a man walked into her open house and shot her multiple times. Police have not established a direct motive for Wilson’s killing but have linked it to the murder of her sons Sherwin Wilson and Marcus Garcia.

On September 30, Sherwin, a 42-year-old mechanic was in his garage working on a vehicle when a gunman shot him several times. Sherwin was accused of the murder of Peter Garcia outside the Rio Claro Magistrate’s Court in 2009. Garcia, a murder accused himself and one of T&T’s most wanted men, was being led out of court when he was shot. In 2009, when Sherwin appeared before the court for Garcia’s murder, Wilson and other family members held a placard protest after police debarred them from entering the court room.

Sherwin was eventually freed due to a lack of evidence. Marcus, Wilson’s other son, was killed after being acquitted of the 2009 double murders of his stepfather Arnold Nelson and his cousin Jason Garcia.
