Fine, community service for ganja possession

A man who was nabbed with half a gramme of cannabis in his possession was on Monday fined $3,000 and ordered to perform six months’ community service by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Shawn Barrow, 19, of Lot 8 La Penitence, admitted that on January 10 at Georgetown, he had the cannabis.

Attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat, who represented Barrow, informed the court that the illegal substance was given to the teen by a friend, for him to “try it.”
