No sign of missing eight after Mazaruni tragedy

Up to 5 pm today there was no sign of any of the eight persons missing after two boats collided yesterday up the Mazaruni River around 12.30 pm.

Nine persons were initially missing but one body was retrieved. The body was identified as Jermaine Calistro.

Minister of Transport, Robeson Benn told Stabroek News that up to 5 pm there had been no sighting of the eight but that various agencies and relatives were continuing the search. Benn told Stabroek News that six of the missing have been identified. They are: Deon Moses, Francisco Alves, Christopher Narine, Ulric Grimes, Ricky Bobb and Keanu Amsterdam.  The identities of the other two persons missing are still to be confirmed.

Both of the boats that collided were believed to be connected to the mining industry.
