European Investment Bank visit well received – EU

The head of regional representation for the Caribbean at the European Investment Bank (EIB), Yves Ferreira ended a four-day visit to Guyana yesterday where he sought to identify lending opportunities in the private and public sector.  The potential of investments from the EIB was well received, a release from the Delegation of the European Union (EU) said.

Ferreira met with Ashni Singh, Minister of Finance, representatives from the local commercial banks, Guyana Power and Light, Guyana Water Incorporated, the Inter-American Development Bank, Caricom and the private sector, the release said.

In particular, the EIB identified financing opportunities in renewable energy, water management and in small and medium sized enterprises.

Since the last EIB project was implemented in 2004, both the Guyanese partners and the EIB agreed that it was time to reset mutual cooperation, the release concluded.
