Bus driver on peace bond after denying assault

Bus driver Mark Johnson was yesterday placed on a bond to keep the peace after he denied an assault charge read against him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry heard that on January 29, at William Street, Kitty, Johnson unlawfully assaulted Leon McCurdy.

Johnson, who was unrepresented by an attorney, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him. McCurdy was absent from court for unknown reasons.

Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman had no objections with the accused being granted bail. Johnson was subsequently placed on self bail and put a bond to keep the peace, pending the determination of the matter.

Their matter will be heard again on
March 1.
