Man remanded over Albouystown armed robbery

A man accused of robbery under arms was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation against Leonard Allicock is that on February 9, at Lot 33 James Street, Albouystown, being armed with a gun, he robbed Amanda Kyte of a quantity of jewellery, cash and a shoulder bag all totalling $687,000 in value. Allicock pleaded not guilty.

Police Prosecutor Alexis David-Hossanah stated that Kyte and Allicock know each other. She explained that on the day in question, Kyte, who has a shop at James Street, was in her shop when Allicock and others barged in and robbed her.

She said Kyte’s brother heard the noise and went to the aid of his sister, but when he entered the shop, he was chopped to his shoulder by one of his sister’s attackers with a cutlass. The prosecutor stressed that Allicock’s brothers are before the court charged with the same matter.

When asked by the magistrate why Allicock was currently appearing before her, David-Hossanah responded that Allicock works in the interior.

Given a chance to speak, Allicock told the court that he knew nothing about the matter. He added that Kyte’s brother had released his dog on his brother for no reason and if he had a gun in his possession, he would have shot the dog when it was attacking his brother.

After listening to both sides, Magistrate Lovell remanded Allicock to prison.

The matter continues on March 25.
