Phyllis Luckie, one of the two women struck down by national football player Colin Edwards in a recent accident on Norton Street, succumbed to respiratory fatigue on Monday night.

Luckie, 58, of Lot 53 Norton Street, Lodge along with her friend Lydia Bishop were about to cross the road when Edwards, who was reportedly speeding on his motorcycle, collided with them on February 5.

Edwards, who was thrown off his motorcycle, remained in a coma at the hospital and died 11 days after.

Luckie, who sustained a broken leg, was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital where she remained as patient.

Shemaine DeSouza, Luckie’s only child, explained that her mother underwent surgery to repair internal damage that became apparent during her hospitalisation. She added that the woman was due to undergo another surgery which would have repaired her hip bone, which was also damaged in the accident.

De Souza’s husband said that the news came as a shock to the family because Luckie was recovering well after the first surgery. He said that apart from the injuries mentioned, Luckie suffered a minor puncture to the head.
