Man charged with stealing $6.5M in items from Household Plus

A 20-year-old man who allegedly broke and entered Household Plus Store and stole $6.5 million in items was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The allegation against Vicky Sugrim is that between July 23 and 25, 2012, he broke and entered Household Plus Store in Regent Street and stole $6.5 million in electronic appliances and clothing.

Attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson, who represented Sugrim, said that the police found none of the items in his client’s possession.

He said he was surprised that the police would believe that his client could carry 20 big televisions by himself. He added that the police and the virtual complainant (VC) did not know when the store was broken into.

He stressed that his client spent four days in custody.

When asked if there were any objections to the defendant being granted bail, Police Prosecutor Venetta Pindar objected stating that Sugrim had pending matters before other courts.
She alleged that the defendant committed the current offence while on bail for previous matters.

The magistrate refused Sugrim his pre-trial liberty and set March 7 as the date for him to return to court.
