Alleged ice-pick robber nabbed after victim spotted him on street

-court told

The accused in an armed robbery was yesterday denied bail after a court heard that he was arrested after the victim of the attack spotted him on the street and identified him to the police.

Patrick Watson appeared yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with robbing Randy Wham, 19, of Lot 94 Better Hope South, East Coast Demerara, of a BlackBerry cell phone, which was valued at $35,000.

It is alleged that Watson committed the attack on March 3, at Regent Street, Georgetown, using an ice-pick.

Watson pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him by Magistrate Sueanna Lovell.

Police Prosecutor Denise Booker said Wham had been walking along Regent Street when Watson approached him from behind him and placed an ice-pick to his neck and demanded that he hand over his cell phone.

Booker said that Watson then ran away. She said that on March 9, Wham saw Watson on Wellington Street and pointed him out to the police, who arrested him.

Booker objected to bail and Watson was remanded to prison. He will make his next court appearance on April 10.
