Roscoe McIntyre, 22, was on Tuesday remanded to prison on a charge of breaking and entering the home of a woman who told the court that the man was nude.
Magistrate Judy Latchman refused to grant a bail release to McIntyre, who allegedly broke and entered the dwelling house of Ivy Bisnauth, with the intent to commit a felony, on the night of March 22 at Meadow Bank.
McIntyre, who was unrepresented by an attorney, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Bisnauth told the court that the defendant came into her house naked with a knife and McIntyre, who was standing in the prisoners’ docks, called her a “witch” and asked her if she saw his face. The woman replied “yes” and noted that he had a tattoo on his face. McIntyre told the court that he would not steal from Bisnauth because they live in the same area. He said he would rather steal from the “Bank of Guyana” than from Bisnauth.
Police Prosecutor Corporal Vishnu Hunt objected to bail, saying McIntyre was a flight risk. He also pointed out the prevalence and seriousness of the offence and the fact that both the accused and the victim reside in the same area. As a result, McIntyre was remanded to prison until May 20, when the matter would be called before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
