Car stolen in $5.2M heist

– court hears

A father of two was granted bail in the sum of $50,000 after he was charged with committing an armed robbery, when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

It was alleged that Richard Herod, 39, of 22 Hadfield Street, Lodge on March 25, at Georgetown, being armed with a gun, robbed Christopher Lowe of a motor car valued $3,000,000, US$200, two gold finger rings valued $126,000, a Fossil wrist watch valued $120,000, a GT&T cellphone valued $4,000, among other items, all totalling $5,225,000.

Herod pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Sueanna Lovell.

Facts about what had transpired on the day in question were not related to the court.

Herod’s attorney Mark Waldron in his application for bail told the court that he finds the allegations against his client very inconsistent because his client was the one who escorted Lowe to the police station.

The prosecutor, Police sergeant Alexis David-Hossanah objected to bail citing the nature of the offence and the punishment it attracts.

The magistrate however overruled the prosecution and granted Herod bail in the sum of $50,000.

His matter will be called again on May 8.
