No bail for man accused of ‘running from police’

27-year-old Shawn McKenzie was remanded to prison on a larceny charge when he appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

The court heard that on November 10, 2012 at East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, it was alleged that McKenzie stole a quantity of beverages valued $375,000 and a quantity of clothes all totalling $825,000, property of Dwayne Thorne.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

McKenzie’s attorney Clyde Forde asked that his client be admitted to bail in a reasonable sum.

However Police prosecutor Alexis David-Hossanah objected and asked that the court refuse bail citing that he has pending matters before the court that are of similar nature.

David-Hossanah also said that McKenzie had been running from the police.

He was refused bail and the matter will continue on April 23.
