The Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) has extended condolences to the injured widow, Ingrid Margaret Ottman and family of the late Helmutt Frederik Ottman and to the German Honorary Consul on the death of the German tourist after an accident on the Annai to Lethem road.
In the statement, THAG also warned travellers on the Georgetown to Lethem road and other interior roadways to practice extreme caution especially if unfamiliar with the roadways. THAG said that the Georgetown to Lethem road has become a major route for driving enthusiasts travelling from neighbouring South American countries to Guyana and then along the Guyana Shield.
Over the years the trail has received both motorcycles and off-road trail vehicles from Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela and other countries, with mostly seasoned travellers who are accustomed to off-road conditions.
