Two teens among six charged over Berbice vigilante murder

Six men were slapped with a murder charge in connection with last week’s vigilante murder in Berbice, when they appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Rudolph Samuels, 21, called ‘Rudy’; Aris Cecil called ‘Safick’, 20; Richard Griffith, called ‘Brick Head’, 18; Michael Lewis called ‘Mikey’, 27, and Khrishnaraj Jagdeo called ‘Chris’, 47 , all of Free Yard, Port Mourant, Corentyne; along with Jafar Seetaram, 19, of Rose Hall Town, Corentyne made their appearance Magistrate Krisendat Persaud and were remanded to prison.

In a crowded courtroom, the charge was read to the six men that on Thursday, May 9, they murdered Albert Munroe. They were not required to plead.
Attorneys Charles Ramsingh III, Rodwell Jagamohan and Sanjeev Datadin entered an appearance on behalf of the defendants.
After the next court date was announced the packed court room was emptied.

The men were remanded to the New Amsterdam Prison and are expected to return to the same court on May 20.
Meanwhile, according to the results of a post-mortem examination, Munroe 45, called ‘Ginne’ and ‘Guana Man’ of Ulverston Village, Corentyne and Persaud Street, Rose Hall Town died as a result of shock and haemorrhage due to muscular injuries.

The autopsy was performed at the Port Mourant Public Hospital by pathologist Dr Vivekanand Brijmohan on Friday last.
On Thursday last, Annie Persaud, 23, of Rose Hall Town and Munroe were brutally beaten by a group of men who accused him of stealing clothing from Priceless Boutique at Port Mourant. Munroe succumbed at the Port Mourant Hospital approximately ten minutes after he was admitted, while Persaud was treated and released into police custody.

According to an eyewitness, a gang of 12 men approached Munroe while he was at a neighbour’s. He was beaten with pieces of wood and iron bars, placed in the trunk of a Toyota motor car and tied up. The man was freed by police after they apprehended the car.
Munroe was to have been buried yesterday.
