Sophia man jailed over $1.2M armed robbery

Magistrate Judy Latchman sentenced a 27-year-old man to 56 months in jail after he was found guilty of armed robbery when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Sherwin Trotman of Lot 45 Section D, South Turkeyen, Sophia first appeared
before Magistrate Latchman on March 7 and pleaded not guilty the charge when it was read to him.

Trotman was charged with robbery committed on Nicola Nedd on February 17 at 342 West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme. He was allegedly armed with a gun, when he robbed her of a handbag valued at $140,000, two diamond bracelets valued $60,000, two gold chains valued $104,000, an iPad valued $100,000, and US$2,500 ($500,000) along with other items, all totalling $1,214,000.

According to Police Prosecutor Jomo Nichols, Nedd, an overseas-based Guyanese had just arrived home on vacation at around 03:25 hrs and as she entered her home at 342 West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, the accused, also entered the house and relieved her of the cash and other articles.
