A man was fined $5,000 yesterday after he admitted to verbally abusing his wife because he returned from work and found that she had not cooked.

The charge stated that on July 12, at their Lot 3 Railway Line, Kitty home, Michael Allen made use of abusive language to Somariah Allen, the mother of his child.

“I work from 6 to 6. Ah lef from de work site and go back home and there was no food. And ah tek off,” the man explained to Magistrate Faith McGusty.

Michael Allen was also arraigned on a threatening language charge, which he denied when it was read to him in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

According to Prosecutor Collin Primus, Allen is a habitual drinker and on the day in question he went home intoxicated and started to abuse the complainant because there was no food in the house.

When the magistrate inquired why he did not buy food instead of cursing the complainant, the defendant responded, “because I gave her all ma money”.

He was then fined $5,000 and bonded to keep the peace and be of good behaviour for six months.
