Girl found in north west shop died of stab wound – post-mortem

A post-mortem examination was today performed on the body of Gweneth Alexander, of Arakaka Village, NWD, by Dr. Nehaul Singh and the cause of death was given as perforation of the liver due to stab wound.

Alexander’s body was found in a shop at Tenapu, NWD, on 2013-07-23.

A source in the NWD who knows the girl and her family said that the teen is originally from Port Kaituma but sometime back she and her family relocated to Arakaka, some 16 miles away. Stabroek News was told that the teen subsequently dropped out of school.

Tenapu according to the source is a mining community which has a very small population. It is located about two hours from Arakaka and is accessed by boat via the Barima River.

This newspaper was told that the teen often visited Port Kaituma and was there up to last week.
