Vehicle brings down power in parts of city

One of the main Georgetown feeders was knocked out of service today due to one conductor being cut when an industrial vehicle came into contact with the primary network in the vicinity of Quamina and Waterloo Streets this morning.

A statement from GPL today said that the incident occurred at 09:31hrs and affected various areas in the city, including sections of Kingston, Carifesta Avenue, North and South Cummingsburg and Avenue of the Republic.  Power was restored at 13:15 hours following replacement of the downed lines, GPL said.

The power company says it has “consistently pleaded with road users to exercise due caution when using the roadways in an effort to avoid incidents of the type witnessed today. The company again renews the call, especially to operators of heavy equipment, to be vigilant when travelling in the vicinity our network to avoid unnecessary damage to property and inconvenience to our customers.”
