Strays units impounded over 330 animals in July

The Ministry of Home Affairs is appealing to livestock owners to ensure proper supervision of their animals during the grazing period as its stray catching units impounded a total of 338 animals last month from the Georgetown, East Bank Demerara, Berbice and West Bank and West Coast Demerara areas.

According to a press release, the Georgetown Unit impounded 173 animals comprising 65 cows, 70 goats and 38 sheep. The Berbice Unit impounded a total of 165 animals comprising 26 horses, one 104 cows, 26 goats and 9 sheep.

A total of 5,831 animals were impounded for 2013 so far. The Georgetown Unit impounded 2,730 animals whilst the Berbice Unit impounded 3,101.

During the month, the ministry received complaints of animals involved in damage to President’s College, University of Guyana, and Le Ressouvenir on the East Coast Demerara, Eccles, East Bank Demerara, Klien Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara and Hague, West Coast Demerara.
