Amistad for Castellani House Tuesday

Castellani House will be showing the film Amistad on Tuesday at 6pm to which the public is invited.

A release from Castellani House said that it is part of a series of American films being shown to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dr Martin Luther King’s ‘I have a dream’ speech as Guyana marks Emancipation month.

The release said that the film was the story of the mutiny aboard the slave ship La Amistad off the coast of Cuba, when the vessel was taken over by the Mende captives it was carrying in its hold. The boat was taken into custody in New York, and led to a famous legal case in the US Supreme Court in 1841. The film reflects too the international dynamics of the period involving the US, Spain and England against the back
