18 months jail for engine theft

A city man was on Tuesday sentenced to 18 months in jail after he admitted to stealing a car engine.

Magistrate Ann McLennan handed down the sentence at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where Keith Harris was arraigned on a charged that on September 6, at Bel Air, Georgetown, he stole the engine, valued $130,000, from Rakesh Sawh.

Harris, of Lot 11 Princes Street, Lodge, pleaded guilty and said that two persons had paid him money to go to Sawh’s yard and steal the engine.

Prosecutor Deniro Jones said that Sawh was not at home at the time Harris went into his yard and stole the engine.

He added that Sawh received a phone call from a neighbour who informed him of what had happened and identified the intruder. The matter was the reported to the police and Harris was arrested and charged.
