Six more classrooms to be built for St Agnes Primary

Six more classrooms are to be constructed for St Agnes Primary, the Ministry of Education said this evening.
Late this afternoon, the Staff, Parent Teacher Association and Board Members of the St. Rose’s High School and the St. Agnes Primary School reached an agreement on how to utilize the space shared by the students of the two schools, a statement from the Ministry of Education said.

There have been disputes in recent years between the two schools on how to use the place. Parents of children at St Agnes had also complained about frequent flooding at the school. The meeting was facilitated and chaired by the Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand in the ministry’s boardroom. The Minister told the meeting that the paramount consideration must be what is in the best interest of all the children.

The release said that the Minister expressed disappointment at the behaviour of some of the adults involved in the matter and said she was concerned that the unwholesome displays could be a bad example to the children.

The release said that the parties amicably but robustly discussed the matter. Having regard for the fact that the Government will be constructing six additional classrooms for usage by St. Agnes Primary School, six current classrooms from St. Agnes’s Primary will be housed at St. Angela’s Primary and St. Ambrose Primary temporarily until said construction is completed, the release said.

The Executive of the St. Agnes PTA is asking the Parents of St. Agnes to attend a special emergency meeting at 4pm at the St. Agnes Primary School on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, the release said.
