Norton St man gets 36 months on ganja charge

Walter Bunting was yesterday sentenced to 36 months in jail after he was found guilty of attempting to traffic 21 grammes of cannabis.

Bunting, 47, of Lot 36 Norton Street, Wortmanville, was found guilty of the offence by Magistrate Judy Latchman after a lengthy trial at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

He was fined $33,768 in addition to the sentence.

Police had alleged that on September 24, at Georgetown, Bunting had 21 grammes of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

He had pleaded not guilty at his arraignment.

There were five witnesses who testified over the one month trial period.
