Police `A’ Division Commander injured in accident

Police Commissioner Leroy Brumell has confirmed that `A’ Division Commander Deryck Josiah has been transferred to a private city hospital after being involved in an early morning accident at Versailles, West Bank Demerara.

Brumell said that the commander who was heading to the airport as part of his official duties whenever the president leaves the country is suffering from pains in his shoulders and feet. It is suspected that his driver sustained head injuries and he is still being treated at the West Demerara Regional Hospital. The accident occurred around 0430 hours.

Brumell said that he was surprised that when he arrived at the airport and did not see the commander. He said he called his cell phone but got no response.

It was shortly after that a traffic rank informed him that Josiah had been involved in an accident.

Brumell said that based on reports Josiah has just left his home and as the vehicle headed around the Versailles turn a car appeared in its path. The commissioner said that a collision occurred and persons in both vehicles were injured. The driver of the other car sustained serious injuries.
