Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the court of Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry that a fight ensued and both men suffered injuries. They were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where Garnett succumbed to his injuries. He said Jones, who admitted to inflicting the injuries, was subsequently charged.

Jones, who was not required to offer a plea to the charge, was remanded until January 14 by the Chief Magistrate.

Garnett, 42, of 229 Thomas Street, Section B South Sophia, had called Jones’ home to speak to his son, who is a child of his previous relationship with Jones’ partner.

However, his attempts were allegedly frustrated by Jones and he subsequently left his Sophia home armed with a cutlass to confront the man.
