A Pegasus taxi driver’s body was found dumped in a garbage heap early yesterday morning at Cane View Avenue, South Ruimveldt, with marks of violence to his head.

The body was identified as that of Rudranauth Jeeboo, 50, of Lot 25 Craig Street, Campbellville. A team of police was at the scene yesterday around 09:00 hours as the body was pulled out of the heap by Lyken Funeral Parlour undertakers.

According to an eyewitness, a man from the neighbourhood was passing the dumpsite when he saw Jeeboo’s body lying face down in the heap. Jeeboo was identified by his driver’s licence, which was in one of his pants’ pockets.

Another Pegasus taxi driver said that he had received a call from Jeeboo around 22:00 hours on Friday. He said the hotel had a party and people were going in and out of the compound. “The place was busy and he called and tell me that he coming to exchange his car,” the taxi driver related. In November, Jeeboo had purchased a new car to work at a hotel and would park it in the hotel compound because he did not have space in his garage.

“He use to park the old one there… so last night [Friday] he came around 10 o’ clock and parked the old one,” the driver said. That was the last time Jeeboo was seen alive.

“He was a good man. It’s tragic what happened to him because only last month his mother died,” another driver said. Jeeboo was employed at the Pegasus as a driver for over 20 years.

Jeeboo’s car, a Toyota Allion, HC 3521, was discovered at the back of Guyhoc Gardens. The vehicle was stripped of its licence plate and the Pegasus logo.

A post-mortem examination will be performed on him some time later this week. Jeeboo leaves to mourn his daughter and sisters.
