Action should be taken against the Route 32 touts

Dear Editor,

I would like to draw to the attention of the Commissioner of Police the plight of minibus operators on the 32 route from Georgetown to Parika.

Editor, some of the operators do not want to join the line system that is presently in place, as when they come they want to load and go back to Parika. They want to make six trips per day. They would go in front of Parliament Building and Demico Park and park there and pay the touts to divert passengers there in full view of police dressed in uniform. The touts are known to the police. Many times you would see the police and these touts in conversation. Whenever the police have a campaign to lock up touts these policemen would alert this particular group of touts.

Editor, recently, they had a campaign to lock up touts and not one of these known touts was caught; instead they locked up operators who own buses and who are legitimately operating the line system.

We the operators want proper action to be taken against these touts; a grave injustice is being meted out to us because of the policemen’s familiarity with the touts.

Yours faithfully,
