Papacy has started on a good note

Dear Editor,

Pope Francis has from all indications started his papacy on a good note by his manifest humility and concern for the poor. In so doing he has won the admiration of not only Catholics but peoples from all races, religions and nationalities.

Humility, simplicity and integrity in the conduct of one’s individual and public life are highly valued character traits as the new Pope has demonstrated.

This is all the more relevant in this age of consumerism, ostentatious lifestyles and materialistic values.

According to the Pope, his role is to open his arms and protect all of humanity, especially the poorest, the weakest, the least important…….the hungry, the stranger, the naked, the sick, and those in prison. He further cautioned against “omens of destruction, hatred, envy and pride to defile our lives.”

These are indeed words of wisdom which if heeded will certainly make this world a much better place.

Yours faithfully,
Hydar Ally
