Please grant me a space in your letter column to give my recommendation as a former member of the army (GDF) and a citizen of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana. With reference to the KN report ‘Search begins for new GDF Chief of Staff,’ I would like to recommend Col Mark Phillip as the new Chief of Staff. He is qualified and highly trained (Sandhurst) and one of the most senior officers in the army. My first contact with him was many years ago when he returned from his training in Sandhurst. I met him at Matthews Ridge where he was the Patrol Commander. He has the administrative ability to command the army and I am quite certain officers and soldiers will fully support his administration.
